Clyde enlisted in the Army in 1953 during the Korean War. This is a Fort Ord, California bootcamp photo. The sun nearly at the horizon, which made everyone squint. Presently Fort Ord is now being turned into private condos.......

U.S. ARMY 1953-1957

Fortunately for Clyde, he was stationed in Seattle as part of the Alaska radio corps network. He did a 6 month tour of duty Adak Island, an island in the Alution Island chain in Alaska where the average wind speed is 60 mph.......

Dad's Cars

Click to see them all....The Fury: When Clyde and I saw the movie Christine, he mentioned he had a car just like it. Which he inevitably drove into the ground and sold to his nephew Steve. I remember hearing something about Clyde selling Steve a car with bald tires and bad brakes? Dad semed to have a problem with tires, as he was always collecting them, which came in handy during those times when his son needed extra tires for doing burn-offs with the family car.......

Dad worked for the Burlington Northern railroad, however at the time because Amtrak ran on B.N. rail, B.N. supplied train crews, including Clyde.......

American Freedom Train

In 1976, the American Freedom Train travelled across the U.S. carrying all kinds of American memorabilia borrowed from the Smithsonian. A conveyor belt running continuously through the train cars carried visitors through the exhibits.......

Because dad occasionally worked for Amtrak, he and his family got free train tickets.......

Working for Amtrak gave dad the opportunity to interact with the public, something he excelled at, especially when it came to giving long speaches over the trains intercom system........
